Muse Cleans Up the Hardware at NME Awards

Muse, MGMT and Oasis were some of the big winners in Tuesday, February 25th’s Shockwaves NME Awards night, held in the O2 Academy Brixton in London.

According to NME.com, Oasis was awarded as Best British Band, while Noel Gallagher, guitarist, was awarded as Best Band Blog.

Muse’s “HAARP” was awarded with Best Album Artwork as well as Best Live Band. Matt Bellamy, the frontman for Muse was named as the Sexiest Male. Hayley Williams of Paramore was named Sexiest Female.

The band MGMT also won two awards. They were named as Best New Band and for “Time To Pretend” won Best Track award.

The Killers were named Best International Band and Pete Doherty won the honors for Best Solo Artist.

Other Shockwaves NME winners included Elbow for Outstanding Contribution to British Music, Kings of Leon for Best Album and Best Video went to Last Shadow Puppets. “Live At The Apollo” by Arctic Monkeys won Best DVD award.

Best Venue went to London Astoria and Best Live Event was Glastonbury 2008.

Tim Burton presented The Cure with the award for Godlike Genius. According to a report from Billboard, Burton said that the only thing saving him while he was working unhappily as a Disney animator was the band’s music.

The NME’s were closed out by a live hit filled set by The Cure, including “Killing An Arab,” “Boys Don’t Cry,” “In Between Days,” “Friday I’m In Love,” and “Lullaby.”
